Preferences Dialog Box:  Articles

Customizes options for articles and Article Windows. These settings affect all data files. To save your settings, select the OK button.

 

This dialog box is displayed when you select the Preferences Command (File Menu).

 

Article Window Size

 

Determines the size of new Article Windows:

 

If Automatic is selected, Article Windows are opened with the default size relative to the size of the main Personal Knowbase window.

 

If Manual is selected, Article Windows are opened with the same size as the last window opened, and any user resizing is retained.

 

Active URL Links

 

Determines whether Internet addresses (URLs) in Article Windows are clickable links:

 

If Visible Active Links is selected, URLs are clickable and are changed to a blue, underlined format to make them easily identifiable.

 

If Invisible Active Links is selected, URLs are clickable but their format is not changed. This is the recommended setting.

 

If No Active Links is selected, URLs are not clickable.

Attachments

 

Open File/Folder Attachments Automatically with Article

If this box is checked, when an article with file attachments opens, then the attached files open in their associated Windows applications. When an article with a folder attachment opens, the attached folder opens in a separate window.

 

Open Internet Attachments Automatically with Article

If this box is checked, when an article with Internet attachments opens, then your default Web browser opens, and the attached Internet addresses are sent to it in the order in which they are listed.

 

You can change which attachments automatically open for each article from the Attachments tab of its Article Properties Dialog Box.

 

Open Folder Attachments and Links with

Checking this box causes all attached folders to open using a program other than Windows Explorer. Click the Browse button to select an alternative program. This must be an executable program file which can take a folder as a parameter. This setting also affects active links and hypertext links to folders.

Image Gallery

 

Show Image Gallery in Article Window

 

The Image Gallery is a pane at the bottom of the Article Window which shows icons or image thumbnails for the article's attachments.

 

If this box is checked, then when you open an article with attachments, this pane appears. If the box is not checked, the Image Gallery is never displayed.

 

Select from three size options for the thumbnails for image file attachments: Small, Medium, or Large. Note that if you change this size option while Article Windows are already open, the size change will not be applied until the Image Galley is hidden and reshown.

Interpret years entered as 2-digit years as being between:

 

By default, all 2-digit years are treated as if they are dates from 2000 to 2099. To change this range, edit the end year.  This affects dates you enter as well as dates from imported files.

Checkboxes

 

Display Date in Article Window

 

If this box is checked, each article's date is displayed in the Article Window. Otherwise, it is not displayed.

 

Display Time in Article Window

 

If this box is checked, each article's time is displayed in the Article Window. Otherwise, it is not displayed.

 

Save Article without Displaying Warnings

 

If this box is checked, all changes made to articles are automatically saved when Article Windows are closed. The Save Article Dialog Box warning is never displayed. Otherwise, this warning is displayed whenever a modified Article Window is closed.

 

This setting also suppresses other dialog boxes which confirm article changes, including the Save Shared Keywords Dialog Box.

 

Use First Line as Title When Untitled

 

If this box is checked, then when you close a new untitled article, the title is automatically created from the first line of the article's content. The title includes all text in the first line up to the end of the line or the first 20 words, whichever is less.

 

Assign Selected Keywords to New Articles

 

If this box is checked, then when you create a new article, the keywords which are currently in the Selected column of the Index Window are automatically assigned to the new article.
