Open Attachments Command (Article Menu)

Glossary  Return to Start  Previous  Next

Opens the files, folders, or Internet addresses (URL) which have been attached to the current article. Attachments are passed to Windows to open in the order in which they are listed on the Attachments tab of the Article Properties Dialog Box (Article Menu).

If the attachment is a file, it opens in whichever Windows application is associated with its file type. If it is a folder, by default, it opens a Windows Explorer window showing the files in that folder (you can change the program from the Articles tab of the Preferences dialog box).

If the attachment is a URL, it opens the Windows application which is configured for that type of URL. Most URLs open in your default Web browser. A mailto: URL opens your default email client application.

This command is only available from an Article Window if that article has at least one attachment or from the Index Window if the currently highlighted article has an attachment.

To assign an attachment to an article, use the Article Properties Command (Article Menu). From there, you can also change which attachments are opened and the order of the attachments.

The keyboard shortcut F5 performs this command. You can also open attachments from a button on the Attachments tab of the Article Properties dialog box or by clicking on the attachment icon on the Article Window.

NOTE:For an explanation of attachments, see About Article Attachments.
