Glossary  Return to Start

Allows you to specify attachments for this article and to change their properties. To save any changes, select the OK button.

This dialog box is displayed when you select the Article Properties Command (Article Menu) or select the Article Attachments button from the Tools Toolbar. To customize settings affecting all articles, use the Preferences Command (File Menu).

NOTE:For an explanation of attachments, see About Article Attachments.

Attachments List

The list shows all current attachments linked to this article. Each line shows the target of one attachment, either an Internet address (URL) or a file or folder name.

Click on an attachment to highlight it for editing, detaching, reordering, or opening. Select multiple attachments by holding down the Shift or Ctrl key while clicking on attachments.

An icon for the highlighted attachment appears to the right of the attachment list. If the attachment is an image file, a thumbnail image is shown. Double-click on an attachment's name to open it.

The column of check-boxes to the left of the attachment names indicates which attachments will generally be opened for this article. The checked attachments are opened with the article when the Always automatically open checked attachments with article checkbox is checked (see below) or when the Open Attachments Command (Article Menu) is used.

You can change whether an attachment is in this open list by clicking on the checkbox beside its name in this list or from the Article Attachment Properties Dialog Box, accessed with the Edit button.

Moves the highlighted attachment up one line in the Attachments list. Use this button and the Down Arrow button to change the order in which attachments are opened and shown in the Image Gallery.

Down Arrow

Moves the highlighted attachment down one line in the Attachments list.

Open Attachment

Opens the file, folder, or Internet address for the highlighted attachment. If the attachment is a file, it launches in whichever Windows application is associated with its file type. If it is a folder, by default, it opens a Windows Explorer window showing the files in that folder (you can change the program from the Articles tab of the Preferences Dialog Box).

If the attachment is a URL, Personal Knowbase opens whichever Windows application is configured for that type of URL. Most URLs open in your default Web browser. A mailto: URL opens your email client application.

Always automatically open checked attachments with article

If this box is checked, then whenever this article opens, attached files or Internet addresses also automatically open. You can specify which attachments automatically open by checking the checkboxes beside the Attachments list.

To cause article attachments to open automatically with all articles, see the Articles tab of the Preferences Dialog Box (File Menu).

Save full pathnames for new file or folder targets

When this checkbox is checked, complete path names are stored for all new attachments and hypertext links for this article.

When this setting is unchecked, Personal Knowbase automatically omits the full path name for new links whenever the path is equal to the currently set relative path as specified on the Articles tab of the File Properties Dialog Box.

If you have unchecked this option but an existing attachment already has the unwanted full path name included, simply Edit the attachment without changing it to strip off the full path name.

NOTE:For a discussion of relative paths with examples, see About File Links and Relative Paths.
