Copying Articles between Data Files

Glossary  Return to Start  Previous  Next

You can copy entire articles from one data file to another, just as you can copy blocks of text. To copy entire articles:

Make sure that the data file you want to copy articles from is currently open.

If the file is not open, refer to the procedure for Opening an Existing Data File.

In the Titles column of the Index Window, highlight the title of the article you want to copy.

To copy more than one article, highlight the titles of all the articles you want to copy. See Selecting Multiple List Items.

Click on the Copy button on the Toolbar.

OR Select the Copy command from the Edit menu.

The copied articles are placed in the Windows Clipboard.

Open the data file you want to copy the articles into.

OR Create a new data file to copy the articles into.

Refer to the procedures for Creating a New Data File or Opening an Existing Data File.

Make sure that the Index Window is the current window by clicking on the Index button on the Toolbar.

OR Select the Index command from the Window menu.

Click on the Paste button on the Toolbar.

OR Select the Paste command from the Edit menu.

The articles are copied into the second data file, and their titles are displayed in the Titles column of the Index Window. Any keywords associated with the articles which are not already in the second data file are added to it.

To move articles from one data file to another, use the Cut command from the Edit menu instead of the Copy command. OR  Move articles by copying them as described above, then re-open the first data file and remove the articles using the Delete Article command (Article menu).

NOTE:If the articles that you are copying contain hypertext links to other articles, these links are lost when you copy them to the new file.
