How much does Personal Knowbase cost?

One single-user license is $49.95 (U.S. dollars).

Is there a discount for ordering multiple licenses?

Yes. See our pricing table for details on multiple-license discounts.

Can I use PK on multiple computers with a single license?

Yes, if you are the only person using Personal Knowbase on both computers.

Our license is single-user, as opposed to single-computer (the registration key is encoded to your name rather than the hardware). Simply install the software on both computers, and use your registration key to unlock it on each computer.

Can I pay by personal or company check?

Yes. To order by check or money order, please send a completed check order form with your check made payable to Bitsmith Software, P.O. Box 84, Pinole, CA 94564-0084.

Checks must be payable in US dollars drawn on a US bank.

Can I pay using a purchase order?

We can accept purchase orders (payable within 30 days in US dollars) from large corporations, government agencies, and educational institutions for orders over $250. Please contact us directly with details about your needs.

How do I register Personal Knowbase?

When you order a license for Personal Knowbase, we immediately email your registration key directly to you. In rare cases, when human intervention is required, we email your key within 24 hours. See our Ordering page for more information.

Convert the trial version into a registered version using the registration information we send you. Copy the entire registration email to the Clipboard by pressing Ctrl-a to select all, then Ctrl-c to copy it. Then start Personal Knowbase and click on the “Register Now...” button when the evaluation screen appears. The Registration Information form will retrieve your name and key from the Clipboard and fill in the fields. Click OK to finish registering.

If the registration form is not filled from the Clipboard, you can enter your registration information manually. Enter both fields exactly as they appear in the email.

I ordered, but I haven't received my registration key!

We send your registration key automatically by email when we receive your order. In rare cases, when human intervention is required, we email your key within 24 hours.

Possible reasons for a further delay are:

  1. Our email to you is being filtered and deleted by your ISP or email software. Spam filtering is currently the most common reason for missing email.

  2. We never received your order.

  3. The email address we have for you is incorrect.

  4. The email address we have for you bounces or returns an error.

If you think it's been too long since your order, and you haven't heard from us, please contact us and let us know! Send us the name under which you ordered the software, your email address, the date of your order, and the method by which you ordered (check, credit card, by web, etc).

You may also want to send us an alternative email address in case your spam filters are preventing email delivery.

If we continue to be unable to contact you by email, we will send your registration information by postal mail.

I get a message that my registration key is too short.

When you try to enter your registration information, you may see this message:

Invalid registration key.

The registration key entered was too short.

This usually means you are trying to enter a version 2 key into version 3 or later of Personal Knowbase. For upgrade information, see the Upgrade page.

If you have already upgraded to version 4.x and have lost your registration key, feel free to contact us to have your key resent.

I received my registration key, but it doesn't work.

The registration key is only encoded to the user name. It is not time-sensitive or encoded to your hardware.

Here are some tips for entering the registration info:

  2. If the form is not filled from the Clipboard, you can enter your registration information manually. Enter the user name exactly as provided.

To enter the key manually, copy the key directly from the email into the Registration Information dialog box. Highlight the entire key and press Ctrl-c, then place the mouse cursor in any one of the 5 key boxes in the dialog box and press Ctrl-v to paste.

  3. Make sure your registration key is for the correct version of Personal Knowbase. To check your version, use the About Personal Knowbase command from the Help menu. Keys which we issued for Personal Knowbase version 2.x or 3.x will not work with version 4.x. For upgrade information, see the Upgrade page.

  4. If the registration key still won't work, you may want to re-install the software or even re-download it. This is just in case the software was corrupted in some way.
