Removing a File's Password

To remove all password protection for a data file, you must first make sure that no articles are currently marked as private. To find all private articles, see Finding Password-Protected Articles.

 

For each private article:

 

Highlight the article's title in the Titles column of the Index Window.

OR Open the article's Article Window by double-clicking on its title in the Index Window.

 

Select the Article Properties command from the Article menu.

 

The Article Properties dialog box is displayed.

 

Uncheck the Make Private checkbox.

 

Select the OK button.

 

When no articles are marked as private, you can remove the password from the data file.

 

To remove the password:

 

Select the File Properties command from the File menu.

 

The File Properties dialog box is displayed.

 

Select the Privacy tab.

 

If privacy is set for this file, you are prompted to enter the password.

 

Uncheck the Password Protect All Articles checkbox.

 

Select the OK button to save the changed setting.

 

Select the File Properties command from the File menu.

 

The File Properties dialog box is displayed again.

 

Select the Privacy tab again.

 

Select the Change Password button.

 

The Change Password dialog box is displayed.

 

Enter your current password in the Enter Old Password field.

 

Leave the two New Password fields blank.

 

Select the OK button.

 

You will be asked to verify that you want to remove the password from this file. Select Yes.

 

If you are instead told that a password must contain at least one character, this means that at least one article is still marked as private. If any articles are marked as private, you cannot remove the password from this data file.
